NORDEN in brief

Dampskibsselskabet NORDEN A/S is an independent shipping company incorporated in Denmark and listed on NASDAQ OMX Copenhagen A/S. The market capitalisation at 19 November 2009 was DKK 10.0 billion. NORDEN was founded in 1871, making it one of Denmark’s oldest internationally operating shipping companies. NORDEN operates in dry cargo and tankers worldwide.  

Dry cargo

In dry cargo, the Company is one of the world’s largest operators of Handymax and Panamax bulkcarriers and has significant activities in the Handysize and Capesize segments. The latest initiative is the entry into the Post-Panamax segment. In total 92 dry cargo vessels (excluding single trip chartered vessels).   

Tankers

In tankers, the Company is active in the Aframax segment, which transports crude oil, and in the Handysize, MR and LR 1 product tanker segments, in total 33 tanker vessels.

The product tanker activities are operated through the Norient Product Pool, which is managed by the 50% owned Norient Product Pool ApS. 

Fleet

NORDEN’s fleet is among the most modern and competitive in the industry and NORDEN operates in total 125 dry cargo- (excluding single trip chartered vessels) and tanker vessels (a mix of owned and chartered tonnage). In addition NORDEN has an extensive newbuilding programme and has in total 67 vessels on order (dry cargo 59, tanker 8).

Offices around the world

NORDEN has its head office in Hellerup, north of Copenhagen (Denmark) (165 employees incl. site-offices) and offices in Singapore (24), Shanghai (China) (13), Annapolis (USA) (10), Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) (3) and Mumbai (India) (4). At its offices NORDEN has in total 219 employees and about 400 are employed on the Company’s owned vessels.

NORDEN was a founding member of the Danish Shipowners' Association in 1884 and has since been a member. Furthermore NORDEN is a member of the international organisations; Intertanko (The International Association of Independent Tanker Owners), BIMCO (The Baltic and International Maritime Council) and ICC Denmark (International Chamber of Commerce).
