ImportantBackground in Naval Architecture and seat design
The JobAs a Principal Seats Engineer the successful candidate will contribute to the Design Reviews and Technical Bid Reviews where ever appropriate, they may also act as a review assessor if appropriately experienced. This role will have significant interface with customers, suppliers and other functions and will promote engineering professionalism to these groups.
Suitable applicants will have the following experience:
Extensive knowledge and competence in the structural arrangement and design of seats for machinery and equipment in naval vessels.
Derivation of the requirements for seats and the overall and detailed arrangements and the derivation of seat scantlings
Structural design of frigate-type or similar vessels.
Familiarity with the use of Classification Society rules and processes, preferably Lloyd's Register Naval Ship Rules.
Ability to liaise with other design teams to obtain the information needed to carry out seat design work and maintain an active role in progressing and monitoring the work programme.
Sound capability in general structural theory and analysis and its application to ship structures.
Some knowledge of dynamic analysis, shock, vibration, and fatigue.
Ability to assess, check and approve structural calculations, sketches, tools and procedures produced by the seats team.
Ability to assess, check and approve structural drawings and submit for approval by the Classification Society and capable of discussing issues with the Classification Society.
Appreciation of shipyard production and fabrication processes and issues with respect to seat design and analysis.
General knowledge and awareness of finite element analysis, its application and assessment.
Awareness of general ship design issues concerning frigate-type vessels.
Ability to produce clear and comprehensive reports and other documents as required by the project.
Capable of organising and chairing technical meetings and taking part in discussions with project and external personnel.
Ability and experience in the technical guidance and management of a small team in the production of sound structural calculations and designs as required by the programme of work.
Application of QA principles and processes.
Capable of estimating, planning, and controlling seat design activities within the overall structures team budget and programme.
Able and willing to travel within UK on an occasional basis.
