You will be involved in the construction of new surface ships for BAE Systems.Important
Marine ExperienceThe Job
You will be based in the Berth Erection hall. The finished Units are delivered from the unit assembly halls and are joined together in the berth to complete the building of the ships The ships are also painted and out fitted in this Hall. The shop is a clean well-ordered shop with all trade disciplines working here.
Main Duties and Responsibilities Include:
Understand and follow written and/or oral instructions
Understand and follow health & safety arrangements
Interpret and, Work from 2 dimensional drawings, and x, y, z, co-ordinate hot-work drawings
Have ALL the basic hand skills, i.e.; Burning & chamfering of thick and thin plate using oxy-propane and plasma. Tack welding and short run fillet welding.
Accurate Marking off, and measurement using Tapes straight edges, Levels, squares, string/chalk lines, and plumb bobs
Ability to use a Dumpy level and laser plane level
Use of grinder and changing discs
Experience in use of strong-backs and fairing aids to prevent distortion.
Bending and forming of thick and thin plate in situ
Have some form of Q.C inspection or process experience
Working to a consistently high standard (Lloyds) in a busy environment.
Time served tradesmen
Experience within a steelwork or marine environment.
Experience of building units on new build and naval vessels are preferred
An enhanced rate is paid to all non-local contractors for their first 37 hours to cover accommodation and travel.
Rates for local contractors are:
PAYE - First 37 hours Day shift - £12.17 (plus £1.47 holiday credit), Overtime Monday - Friday- £16.23, Weekend Overtime - £20.28
Ltd/Umbrella Company - First 37 hours Day shift - £15.07, Overtime Monday - Friday- £19.56 , Weekend Overtime - £24.03
Rates for Non local contractors (Outside 50 Miles):
PAYE - First 37 hours Day shift - £15.85 (plus £1.47 holiday credit), Overtime Monday - Friday- £16.23, Weekend Overtime - £20.28
Ltd/Umbrella Company - First 37 hours Day shift - £19.14, Overtime Monday - Friday- £19.56, Weekend Overtime - £24.03
