Maersk Oil is looking for an experienced Geophysicist for the Corporate Production Development department (CPD) at the head office in Copenhagen. CPD is responsible for bringing fields from appraisal to development stage and of strengthen Maersk Oil's global portfolio. Currently operated production is located in the North Sea, Qatar, and Kazakhstan, and E&A activities are underway across the globe.

The Position

The position is located in the Business Development and Operating Unit Support Team. The successful candidate will be part of a project team working on field development planning for existing Maersk assets, as well as with technical evaluations of new development opportunities. An important part of this role includes the identification and screening of global business opportunities, data room visits and fast-track evaluations. Responsibilities for the successful candidate will include: 
  • All aspects of Geophysical evaluation of 2D and 3D datasets
  • Integration with other subsurface disciplines to provide input to static and dynamic models during development scenario planning
  • Liaison with the Corporate Geophysics Team to evaluate processing and QI options
  • Ensuring the robustness of geophysical studies through effective interaction with internal and external expertise in industry and academia
  • Accurately and confidently present work conclusions, both written and verbal to company and partners
  • Support of the broader geophysical community in the creation of a positive learning and knowledge sharing environment
 The successful candidate will be working within an integrated team including geologists, petrophysicists and reservoir engineers. The work location is Copenhagen, but travel and shorter international stays will be required in connection with project work and screenings.  

The Person
 
The successful candidate will be working with an experienced, highly professional and demanding team and must therefore have the following qualifications: 
  • Self-starter with strong organization, analytical and communication skills
  • Prior experience, and desire to work in a multidisciplinary environment
  • Fluency in written and spoken technical English
  • M.Sc. level or higher in geophysics with ten or more years of experience in upstream E&P
  • Familiarity with all aspects of applied geophysics for E&P
  • Ability to define quickly the scope and scale of a study, depending on the amount and quality of data provided, and time available
  • Business oriented, and exposure to wide range of development projects
In addition to the above requirements, the following would be desirable elements in the candidate's CV:

  • Experience with unitisation studies
  • Experience of successfully working with and supervising external contractors / consultants
  • Structural geology competencies, particularly in the assessment of trap integrity, fault seal and / or characterization of fractured reservoirs
  • Previous experience from working in virtual teams
