Operations & Freight Director

Job Description

Role will suit a commercially astute Sea Freight and Operations Professional with the ability to maintain, improve and develop the existing operation.

The Operations & Freight Director, will have overall responsibility for the planning and delivery of the Serco NorthLink Ferries operation which is safe, reliable and customer focused. This is a key leadership role and aimed at delivering best practice ferry services operations to the Northern Isles requiring close working with the Customer Service Director, HR Manager, HSQE Manager and Technical Management.

The post holder will act as the Designated Person Ashore (DPA) in terms of the ISM with direct line reporting and responsibilities to the Managing Director and to the Serco Group DPA. This is a key role with overall accountability for the safe operation of all ships in compliance with the ISM and Port and Ship security in compliance with ISPS.

Desired Skills & Experience
•Extensive experience in a senior management role involving Sea Freight / Transport Operations, preferably in the maritime sector of a similar scale and complexity to Northern Isles
•Educated to degree level with professional qualifications relating to Freight / Transport / Marine / Operations
•Strong leadership skills able to harness commitment and pride from the workforce and lead change
•Experience of managing operational workforces in a highly unionised environment
